ShareSMS is an Android messaging app that helps you organise, protect and manage your SMS. This policy explains what the app accesses, what stays on your device, and the limited cases where information leaves it — always at your choice.

The short version: Sorting, labelling, bill‑parsing and scam‑detection all run on your device. Your message content is only transmitted off the phone if you set up message forwarding or connect the web portal. We never sell your data and we show no ads.

1. Information the app accesses

SMS messages. As a default SMS app, ShareSMS reads, receives, stores and sends SMS/MMS so it can show your inbox, sort messages, detect bills/OTPs, and (if you enable it) forward them.
Contacts. Read to show sender names and to let you pick recipients for forwarding. Contact data is not uploaded.
Phone / SIM info. Used for dual‑SIM sending and to associate messages with the right SIM.
Device & diagnostic info. Basic technical data needed for the app and (if connected) the web portal to function.

2. What stays on your device

By default, all message processing is local: rule matching, labels, the Dues/To‑Do extraction from bill SMS, sender‑trust and scam checks, and mute/pin settings are computed and stored on your phone. This data is not sent to us.

3. What is transmitted — only when you choose

Forwarding. If you create a forwarding rule, matching messages are sent to the phone numbers you specify. One‑time passwords (OTPs) are excluded by default; if you deliberately enable OTP forwarding, each OTP is drafted and only sent when you tap Send.
Web portal / sync. If you pair the web portal (web.sharesms.in), the messages needed to display there are transmitted to our servers over an encrypted connection so you can read and manage them from your computer. If you don’t connect the portal, nothing is uploaded.

4. How we protect it

Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). Access tokens are stored securely on the device. We restrict server access and retain synced data only as long as needed to provide the service.

5. What we do NOT do

We do not sell or rent your personal data.
We do not show advertising in your inbox.
We do not share your SMS content with third parties for their own purposes.

6. SMS & Call Log permissions

ShareSMS requests SMS permissions because it is a default SMS handler — it genuinely implements the inbox, conversation view, sending and notifications a default SMS app must provide. These permissions are used only to deliver the features described above and are never used for undisclosed purposes.

7. Your choices

Change your default SMS app at any time in Android settings.
Delete any rule, label, task, or forwarding rule inside the app.
Disconnect the web portal to stop syncing.
Uninstalling the app removes its on‑device data.

8. Children

ShareSMS is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

9. Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
